About Four Up
Four Up is a classic vertical four-in-a-row game against a computer opponent. You and the computer take turns dropping discs into a seven-column grid, and the first to line up four discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins.
The computer searches several moves ahead, and on Hard it rarely misses a threat. Choose Easy to learn the patterns, Normal for a fair contest, or Hard when you want a real challenge. Your current win streak is tracked as your score.
How to play
- You play amber discs and always move first.
- Tap or click a column to drop a disc to the lowest free space.
- Connect four of your discs in any straight line to win.
- If the grid fills with no winner, the game is a draw.
Tips and strategy
- Control the centre column. It takes part in more possible lines than any other.
- Look for moves that create two threats at once. The computer can only block one.
- Before every move, check whether the computer has three in a row waiting for a fourth.
Frequently asked questions
How strong is the computer?
Easy makes frequent mistakes, Normal looks a few moves ahead, and Hard searches deeper and plays very carefully.
Can I play against a friend?
Not yet. Four Up currently supports single-player games against the computer.
What counts as a win streak?
Consecutive wins at any difficulty. A loss resets the streak; a draw does not.
